Star garden of Olaszliszka Memorial
köztéri művészeti akció | 3933 Olaszliszka, Kossuth Lajos út 13. | Map | 2016
Remembering is a slow process, and it takes time for memories to form. The pilgrims come a long way to reach the memorial place. The entrance of this Place takes a few minutes, but the old Synagouge provides a space integrated with art that engages the viewer in a dialogue of sorts.

The remains of this building, its crumbling walls were preserved in their current form, the stones that it is built of are conserved in their original form. Our task is to create a “10 minute experience”, during which the pilgrims can go through the path of remembrance both physically and mentally. Form the gates of the garden to the Torah drapery on the back wall of the old synagogue, we go through a star map of the day they took the Jewish residents from here to be put to death. We can illuminate the names of the exterminated families with candles, thus bringing the dead back to life for a few minutes. The synagogue has a voice constantly singing from “somewhere”, borrowed form a movie that was filmed here, which was made with the last living rabbis of this place in the 1970s and 1980s.
